Riley Kae Dressler

Born: October 11, 2006
Time: 11:01 a.m.
Weight: 14.11 ounces
Length: 10.75 inches

Thank you to family, friends and all those praying for our little Riley. Your prayers, cards and warm wishes are very much appreciated. Thank you for your love and support during this difficult time.

I hope to keep this blog updated as much as possible so that we may keep you all informed. As most of you know, Riley Kae was born at 25 weeks (15 weeks early) and was 14.11oz and 10.75 inches long.

Riley's first week went great and there have been a few bumps in the road since. Aside from a few issues with her lungs, she is doing as well as expected for a baby of her size. The lungs are almost always a concern for premature babies, and she's kept the doctors on their toes in this area. We are told that the lungs continue to develop up until age 8, so we are optimistic that if any damage does occur as a result, that it will be minimal.

We found out today that her PDA (an open valve in the heart) is now closed which may eliminate the need for surgery. We are very hopeful that this will remain closed.

Riley was baptised today by Deacon John Sicilia and we are thrilled to say, this was a great day.

Riley at 6 days old.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all! We spent 11 days in the NICU (almost 3 years ago) with our son Zach, and I learned in that very short time to appreciate each little milestone and to lean on those around me for support. Jen - as a mother I can't imagine what you are going through but I pray every day that you and your family remain blessed. God speed.

We are continuing to pray for Riley at Greater Gresham Baptist Church prayer chain. My personal prayer is that God may hold her in His gentle hand and sing to her in the night with His song that only tiny babies can hear. Zephaniah 3:17

Hi there,
You don't know me, but I got a prayer request for your little girl through the Gwinnett Mothers of Multiples communication. Just saw that your little girl had the open valve (PDA). I can definitely relate to what you went through on that! My twins were born 10 weeks early at less than 3 & 4 lbs. My son had the open valve and we were terrified! They gave him the medicine and it closed it up, after the 2nd try. We didn't have to have the surgery, either, which was such a relief. Just wanted to give you some encouragement that both of my kids are healthy and doing well. I know God is watching your little girl and I pray that all goes well for her.

Jen & John,

God has given you a precious gift. Your situation is a gentle reminder to us all that life is fragile. As I observed the different postings I couldn't help but think that God has a bigger plan than we can imagine. There seem to be folks from all over the map praying for you all. From Greater Gresham Baptist Church to the State of New York. God is watching over each and every movement around baby Riley.

My prayer is that Riley will live to tell the story that Jesus saved her life and used her for his work.

God's Blessings on your baby and the rest of your family!
